Sponsorship Programme

We run 2 Sponsorship Programmes:

  • Sponsor a family for £30 a month
  • Sponsor a child for £15 a month

You will be paying for a monthly food parcel which helps feed the children and family for the month. The content of a standard food parcel are:

  • 10kg maize meal
  • 10kg rice
  • 5kg beans
  • 500g sugar
  • 500g salt
  • 400g soya mix
  • 750ml oil
  • 2 bars of soap
  • 6 candles
  • 5 boxes of matches
  • 25 tea bags

These items are chosen because they are commonly used staples in the communities we work with. The family sponsorship gives the option of a larger food parcel. The rest of the money is used to pay school fees and school uniforms vary according to which school the children attend. This means that occasionally there needs to be some flow between individual sponsorships within the schemes as well.

We encourage families receiving the food parcel to take steps to avoid dependency on food parcels. Depending on what is appropriate they should be applying for government grants, growing food themselves and even looking for work. If a family is headed by a child then all we ask is that they attend school and we would expect that they will need help for a longer time. Through other projects in our outreach programme we can help them in various ways. We always hope that the family's circumstances will improve so that they no longer need sponsorship. So we may ask you at some point if we can transfer your sponsorship to another needy family or child. This is important to avoid developing a culture of dependency and work at ensuring that we direct our help to those that need it the most in a community.

As a sponsor you will receive a profile of your child or family and then a yearly update on their progress.

We are also able to arrange visits to your sponsor child or family. The easiest time to meet is on the monthly food drop which is usually in the second week of each month. It can be difficult outside of this time because of transport and staff availability.

Working group holidays

We have a facility for groups to stay and experience the Zulu culture and the beauty of South Africa and at the same time make a difference to the lives of those less fortunate than themselves. During their stay, groups work on building or maintenance projects. They spend time in the rural communities we work in, experiencing first hand the issues faced by these communities. Dependant upon the timing, they will assist with one of our monthly food drops. On the weekends we will entertain them with trips to the spectacular Drakensburg Mountains or a local game park where the big five can be seen.

An example of a group can be seen below.

Working closely with God's Golden Acre, Homes of Hope volunteers built a better tomorrow for these children by building them a new home. To see more details please see Homes Of Hope

Fundraise and Raise awareness

If you would like to take an active part in fundraising for God's Golden Acre Khayelihle, any money you raise will benefit the whole community through provision of food, medical supplies and housing. Whether it is an individual event such as a sponsored walk or marathon, or an event organised through your school or work place such as a sponsored spell or a coffee morning, your help will make a difference. Also please help to make people aware of our work, just by telling people about us or email a friend a link to this website.
